Photojournalist David Bacon to discuss ‘World of Migration’ at conference
Photojournalist David Bacon, known for his images that capture the migrant experience, will show and discuss his photographs Oct. 12 at a University of South Carolina conference on Latino immigration.
Bacon’s keynote address, “The Roots of Migration,” will take place at 7 p.m. in Gambrell Hall, Room 153. It is free and open to the public. His book, “Communities without Borders: Images and Voices from the World of Migration,” combines photojournalism with oral histories to portray the lives of people who migrate between Guatemala and Mexico and the United States.
The conference, “Latino Immigration to New Settlement Areas: Trends and Implications,” takes place Oct. 11 - 13 at the university. Sponsored by the Consortium for Latino Immigration Studies, the conference features researchers from universities across the United States and Mexico who will discuss topics related to the newest areas of Latino immigration: Southeast, Northwest and Midwest. Topics will include health, education, immigration legislation and policy issues and economic implications.
Registration and conference information is available online at the web site: www.sph.sc.edu/cli.
The Consortium for Latino Immigration Studies at the university’s Arnold School of Public Health promotes and coordinates research related to Latinos in South Carolina and the Southeast.
