Alumni head to Statehouse March 26 for fifth annual Carolina Day
University of South Carolina alumni are encouraged to join in the university’s fifth annual Carolina Day at the Statehouse Wednesday, March 26, to meet with elected officials and discuss the importance of public support for public higher education in South Carolina.
Alumni are encouraged to register online at the Web site: www.MyCarolina.org/advocacy
The event is an outreach effort of the Carolina Action Network (CAN), an advocacy group comprising University of South Carolina alumni and friends of the university who want to ensure that the state’s flagship university continues to receive the funding necessary to provide a quality education for its students.
Participating alumni will check in at 9 a.m. at the Capital City Club, meet with university officials and head to the Statehouse to meet with elected officials from their respective districts beginning at 10 a.m. Participants are encouraged to wear garnet and black, the school colors.
Registered participants are invited to return to the Capital City Club at noon for a lunch and to hear remarks by Carolina President Andrew Sorensen.
Participation in Carolina Day has steadily increased as more alumni learn about the advocacy project and the Carolina Action Network. More than 300 alumni from the state’s 46 counties participated last year.
For more information and to register, alumni should visit the Web site or call Shelley Dempsey at 803-777-3986.
