12 ----- Carolina Alive Jazz Vocal Concert. 7:30 p.m.

24 ----- Graduate Vocal Ensemble Concert, 5:30 p.m.

25 & 27 ----- “The Magic Flute” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. An opera in two acts. 7:30 p.m. April 25 and 3 p.m. April 27. Tickets are $18 for the public, $15 for senior citizens (ages 55 and older) and university faculty, staff and military and $5 for students. Longstreet Theatre.

USC Symphony Orchestra Directed by Maestro Donald Portnoy, all concerts are at 7:30 p.m. in the Koger Center for the Arts. Tickets are available at the Carolina Coliseum box office or by calling 803-251-2222. Tickets are $25 for the public; $20 for university faculty and staff and senior citizens (55 and older); $8 for students. 16 ----- The symphony will perform with soloists from the North American Saxophone Alliance Saxophone Festival. 7:30 p.m.

9 ----- Joseph Rackers, faculty piano recital. Rackers is assistant professor of piano.
14 ----- Peter Kolkay, faculty bassoon recital. Kolkay is an assistant professor of bassoon.
27 ----- Sheila Browne, guest artist viola recital. A dynamic and versatile artist, violist Sheila Browne has concertized in many of the world’s major halls as a soloist, chamber musician and as principal of several orchestras. She was a finalist at Carnegie Hall in the Pro Musicis International Solo Awards.
28 ----- Craig Butterfield, faculty double bass recital. Butterfield is assistant professor of double bass.

Bands and Percussion Ensembles Recitals and concerts featuring University of South Carolina musicians. Bands are led by James Copenhaver, director of bands; George Brozak, associate director of bands, director of athletic bands and director of “The Mighty Sound of the Southeast” marching band; and Rebecca Phillips, associate director of bands. 26 ----- Student composers recital.

Chamber Innovista Series The School of Music presents its newest chamber music series, which is affiliated with the university’s Innovista. Situated in the heart of the Innovista district, the School of Music will present two concerts of innovative and original chamber music. Concerts are free and open to the public and take place at 3 p.m. in the recital hall. Series tickets are available by calling 803-777-4280.

6 ----- Program includes Olivier Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” to commemorate Messiaen’s 100th birthday. It will feature Joseph Eller (clarinet), William Terwilliger (violin), Robert Jesselson (violoncello) and Marina Lomazov (piano). The concert also will feature Brahms’ “Two Songs for Alto, Viola, and Piano, Op. 91” featuring Helen Tintes-Schuermann (contralto), Constance Gee (viola) and Charles Fugo (piano).

North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) 2008 Biennial Conference Koger Center for the Arts. All events are free and open to the public.

16 ----- USC Symphony featuring guest soloists from the NASA Conference. 7:30 p.m.
17 ----- USC Symphonic Band Concert, featuring the university’s Symphonic Bands, under the direction of James Copenhaver and Rebecca Phillips, with guest soloists from NASA. 7:30 p.m.
18 ----- Concert, TBA. 7:30 p.m.
19 ----- Special Jazz Guest Artist, Walt Weiskopf Quartet, 7:30 p.m.

4 ----- School of Music and Bob Jones University joint piano recital. 5 p.m.
7 ----- Spring Trombone Night. Trombone students from the studio of Brad Edwards will perform. 7:30 p.m.
9 ----- Helen Tintes-Schuermann voice studio recital. Vocal students from the studio of Helen Tintes-Schuermann will perform. St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 1529 Assembly St., 3 p.m.
10 ----- Symphonic/Jazz/World Music Ensemble Concert. The School of Music’s newest orchestra, featuring exciting new music where the boundaries between world music, classical and jazz are blurred. Directed by Sonia Jacobsen. 7:30 p.m.
13 ----- Robert Pruzin Horn Studio recital. Horn students from the studio of Robert Pruzin will perform. 7:30 p.m.
27 ----- Robert Jesselson Cello Studio recital. Cello student from the studio of Robert Jesselson will perform. 3 p.m.
