Carolina Master Scholars Program to offer summer learning adventure
Middle- and high-school students are invited to pick their summer adventure from an array of topics ranging from law and writing to marine science and biotechnology through the University of South Carolina’s Carolina Master Scholars Program.
The deadline for the summer adventure series is three weeks before the start of each adventure.
Carolina Master Scholars Program is for academically talented students in grades 6 – 12 (rising) who are interested in exploring a new subject through activities -- rather than lectures -- with the university’s top professors. Each adventure series is limited to 20 students, with slots filling quickly.
Students may register as a commuter student for $450 or as a residential student for $800 and stay in Maxcy College, a residence hall for South Carolina Honors College students. Students who complete three or more adventure-series programs are recognized at a ceremony in December.
To register, call 803-777-9444 or go online to http://learn.sc.edu.
Upcoming adventure series for students in grades 6 - 9 (rising) will explore law, marine science, statistical data analysis, visual arts computing, robotics and writing. For students in grades 8 – 12 (rising), adventure series will be devoted to computer gaming, culinary arts, SAT/ACT advancement, medicine, pharmacy, bio-nanotechnology and exercise science. This year includes an additional adventure in journalism.
The Carolina Master Scholars Program is organized by the university’s Office of Academic Enrichment and Conferences, which offers an additional array of summer camps, institutes and programs for elementary-, middle- and high-school students.
