Climate change expert to speak Oct. 23
Dr. James Hansen, one of the nation’s leading climate scientists, will speak Thursday, Oct. 23, at the University of South Carolina.
His talk, which is free and open to the public, will be at 7:30 p.m. in the School of Law auditorium. It is the first program in the Distinguished Lecturer Series by the School of the Environment in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Hansen, who directs NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, is best known for his research in the field of climatology. In the 1980s, he gave testimony to congressional committees that helped create public awareness about the growing threat of climate change. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1996.
He has received numerous awards for his scientific achievements and public service, including the Roger Revelle Award from the American Geophysical Union, two NASA Presidential Rank Awards and the Common Wealth Award of Distinguished Service.
