School of Music to present night of saxophone March 3

Clifford Leaman, University of South Carolina professor of saxophone, will perform music that spans three centuries Tuesday, March 3, in the School of Music recital hall.

The 7:30 p.m. concert is free and open to the public.

Joining Leaman will be eight undergraduate and graduate saxophone students and faculty members. Also performing will be Constance Gee, viola; Joseph Rackers, piano; and assistant professors of voice Janet Hopkins and Lynn Kompass. The concert will feature works from the 18th century through the 20th century, including “Adagio and Gigue” by W.A. Mozart and “Trio, Opus 47” by Paul Hindemith.

“I wanted to play as many various chamber settings as possible, and these pieces are the highest quality,” said Leaman. “This concert showcases some of our brightest student talent and features outstanding faculty musicians, some of whom I’ve worked in the past and others whom I’ve been looking for an opportunity to work with.”
