Neural nature of brain and music topic of university lecture March 16
A leading authority on human brain adaptation will deliver a public lecture Monday, March 16, at the University of South Carolina.
Dr. Lutz Jäncke, professor and chairman of the Institute of Psychology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, will speak from 3:30 – 5 p.m. in Sloan College, Room 112.
Jäncke’s talk, titled “Specialization of the Specialist,” will address the concept of neuroplasticity, the human brain’s ability to alter entire brain structures in order to adapt to environmental change. Specifically, he will explore the link between music and language processing by looking at how the brains of professional musicians adapt as a result of musical practice.
Jäncke is a candidate for the South Carolina Centers of Economic Excellence (COEE) Endowed Chair in Neuroimaging.
A reception will take place at McCutcheon House after the lecture. For more information, call the department of psychology at 803-777-4137.
