April 2----USC Concert Choir spring concert. 7:30 p.m., St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3512 Devine St., Columbia. Performance of original work by Dr. Tayloe Harding, dean of the School of Music. Tickets cost $10 at the door.
April 17----University Chorus concert. 7:30 p.m., St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia.
April 21----Graduate Vocal Ensemble concert. 5:30 p.m., School of Music recital hall.
OPERA at USC -- Tickets can be purchased by calling 803-777-0058. For more information, contact Ellen Schlaefer, opera director, at eschlaefer@mozart.sc.edu. Dr. Lynn Kompass is the musical director, and Neil Casey is the conductor. Tickets are as follows: general admission, $18; seniors, faculty, staff, military, $15; students, $5. Season tickets are available.
April 24 and 26 – “Our Town.” 7:30 p.m., April 24; 3 p.m., April 26. Longstreet Theatre. American composer Ned Rorem’s transformation of the classic play to opera.
USC Symphony Orchestra -- Directed by Maestro Donald Portnoy. All concerts are held in the Koger Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Carolina Coliseum box office or by calling 803-251-2222. April 14---- Vadim Gluzman (violin), Randolph Locke (tenor) and Carol Sparrow (mezzo-soprano) will perform Wagner’s “Prelude to Act III” of “Lohengrin,” Respighi’s “Pines of Rome,” Saint-Saens’ “Introduction and Rondo Capricioso,” Sarasate’s “Zigeunerweisen,” select arias and duets from Carmen, Pagliacci, Gianni Schicchi and more.

April 2----Baruch Meir guest artist piano recital. 7:30 p.m. Meier has performed extensively in Austria, England, France, Israel, Portugal and the United States.
April 4---- Craig Butterfield faculty double bass recital. 7:30 p.m. Butterfield is assistant professor of music at the University of South Carolina.
April 20----Christopher Berg faculty guitar recital. 7:30 p.m. Berg is a Carolina Distinguished Professor of Music and director of guitar studies at the University of South Carolina. Berg will perform works by Francisco Tarrega and Isaac Albeniz in honor of the centenary of their deaths in 1909.
April 21----University of South Carolina jazz faculty recital. 7:30 p.m. Faculty members Bert Ligon and Craig Butterfield perform.

Bands and percussion ensembles -- Recitals and concerts featuring University of South Carolina musicians. University bands are led by James Copenhaver, director of bands; George Brozak, associate director of bands, director of athletic bands and director of “The Mighty Sound of the Southeast” marching band; and Rebecca Phillips, associate director of bands. April 9----USC Chamber Winds Ensemble concert. 7:30 p.m., School of Music recital hall.
April 16----Palmetto Pans Steel Band concert. 7:30 p.m., School of Music recital hall.
April 26----University Bands spring concert. 5 p.m. Dedication ceremony; 6 p.m. concert. Concert in the new Band and Dance Building, located at 324 Sumter Street. Guests are invited to tour the building after the dedication ceremony.

April 10----Campus Orchestra Concert. 7:30 p.m. One of two new School of Music ensembles. The Campus Orchestra is directed by Neil Casey.

April 1----USC computer music concert. 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature the debut of the USC Laptop Ensemble and seven world premieres of music by professor Reginald Bain and students for Wiimote and laptop.
April 25----“New Voices” student composers concert. 7:30 p.m.
“Chamber Innovista Series” -- The “Chamber Innovista Series” was launched in 2008. In keeping with the University of South Carolina’s Innovista research campus approach of “Live, Work, Learn, Play,” “Chamber Innovista” provides innovative and original chamber music. Concerts are held at 3 p.m. in the School of Music recital hall. Call 803-576-5763 to reserve tickets: $15 per person per performance or $38 for the three-concert season.
April 19----Featuring Andre Mehmari’s “Quartet for Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, and Piano,” Francis Poulenc’s “Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano” and Silvestre’s “Revueltas.” The concert will feature the USC Faculty Brass Quintet.
