University to offer Summer Drama Conservatory for students June 8 – 29

The University of South Carolina will bring back its popular Summer Drama Conservatory for elementary- and high-school students June 8 - 29.

The program will be available through the department of theater and dance and will be headquartered at Longstreet Theatre.

The Summer Drama Conservatory is an intense program dedicated to providing aspiring actors a rigorous, challenging and fun training and performance experience. Students will learn age-appropriate acting skills, movement and creative expression.

The conservatory will feature three age divisions: high school (grades 9-12), upper elementary (grades 4-6) and early elementary (grades 1-3). Fees are $150 for early elementary, $250 for upper elementary and $550 for high school. To view class schedules and to register, go to the Web site: www.cas.sc.edu/thea.

Peter Duffy, assistant professor of theater education at the university, will direct the Summer Drama Conservatory, along with other award-winning faculty and graduate students from the university’s graduate theater-education program.

For more information, call Kevin Bush at 803-777-9353, or e-mail Duffy at duffyp@mailbox.sc.edu.
