Moore School to release economic impact study of state’s natural resources May 27

Economists from the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina will release findings from an economic impact study of South Carolina’s natural resources at a series of news conferences Wednesday, May 27, in Greenville, West Columbia and Charleston.

Dr. Doug Woodward, director of the Division of Research, and Dr. Paulo Guimaraes, will discuss the 2009 study, “Underappreciated Assets: the Economic Impact of South Carolina’s Natural Resources,” at the following times and locations:

  • 9:30 a.m., Greenville. Carolina First Amphitheatre in Reedy Falls Park.
  • Noon, West Columbia. Riverfront Park, located at the corner of Alexander Road and Meeting Street on the West Columbia side of Gervais Street bridge.
  • 3:30 p.m., Charleston. Charleston City Marina, located at 17 Lockwood Drive.
The news conferences also will feature remarks by S.C. Division of Natural Resources Director John Frampton and members of the S.C. Natural Resources Society. Digital images and B-roll video will be available to media at the event. Reporters will be able to do individual interviews after each news conference.

The Moore School report reflects the first comprehensive study of activities associated with the state’s natural resources, including wildlife-related outdoor recreation (hunting, fishing, boating, wildlife watching), resource-based tourism, forestry, mining, boat manufacturing and commercial fishing.
