Faculty to know...
The face of Carolina is changing. As large numbers of faculty retire and new faculty representing the spectrum of disciplines join the ranks, the pool of expert sources for reporters will expand. To help reporters get to know our faculty, we will highlight several faculty members each week. Create a file or visit the USC News Web site (http://uscnews.sc.edu) for additional experts and news items.
Meet faculty from Carolina's department of exercise science:
Dr. Larry Durstine, chairman of the department of exercise science in USC's Arnold School of Public Health, is internationally recognized for his research on lipids, adult fitness and physical activity to manage chronic diseases and disabilities. He is president-elect of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Teresa Moore, a clinical assistant professor in USC's department of exercise science, is an exercise physiologist and registered nutritionist. Her expertise includes physical activity, strength training, diet and nutrition.
Dr. Russ Pate, a professor in USC's department of exercise science, is a past president of the American College of Sports Medicine and recently served on the U.S. government's advisory council that developed the 2005 "Dietary Guidelines for Americans" report, which includes the Food Pyramid.
