Commencement to highlight 200th anniversary of first class


The University of South Carolina will celebrate the 200th anniversary of its first class of graduates during commencement ceremonies at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the Colonial Center.

The university expects to award nearly 2,100 degrees to students from all eight campuses, including 1,518 baccalaureate degrees and 580 master’s degrees, specialist degrees, certificates and associate’s degrees. Nine law degrees also will be awarded.

The doctoral commencement ceremonies will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Koger Center. Dr. Walter Edgar, director of the university’s Institute for Southern Studies, will speak. The university will award 82 doctoral degrees.

Media can park in the Pearl lot behind the Colonial Center.
