Children’s Book Week 2007: Students to turn stories into animated films
To celebrate National Children’s Book Week 200, the College of Mass Communications and Information Studies will hold a two-day workshop Nov. 13 – 14 on storytelling and animation. Students in grades 4 – 6 from Logan, Brennan and Meadowfield elementary schools and Epworth Children’s Home will learn about the art of storytelling and stop-motion animation from award-winning children’s author and animation expert Joe Summerhays, with assistance from university faculty.
The workshop offers excellent visual and reporting opportunities. Best visual opportunities include 11 a.m. – noon Tuesday, Nov. 13, when students will prepare their stories to be animated and from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, when they will make their animated films, which will be screened from 2 – 4 p.m.
The workshop will take place in the Frank McGuire Room in the Basketball Practice Facility, located next to the Carolina Coliseum.
Summerhays has written 35 children’s books and designed more than 70 award-winning children’s software titles, many of which have won top awards.
