University to brighten holidays with annual tree lighting
The University of South Carolina will brighten the holidays with its 53rd annual tree lighting, which will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, on the historic Horseshoe.
Broadcast and print media are invited to join Cocky for the tree lighting, which offers local media excellent visual opportunities.
University president Dr. Andrew Sorensen will light the tree, and the celebration will feature holiday music by Cocktails, the university’s female a cappella choir, and the Logan Elementary School choir. The Logan choir will sing “O, Christmas Tree” as the 30-foot cypress tree, donning white lights and student-decorated ornaments, is lit. Emcees for the event are students Andrew Brenan, co-director of Carolina Cares, and Megan Braun, co-director of Carolina Service Council. Speakers include Dr. Sorensen, student president Nick Payne, Kelley Cox of the Salvation Army and Kathye Holder of the Nurturing Center.
