University to release survey results on S.C. party membership

The University of South Carolina’s Institute of Public Service and Policy Research will release the results of a longitudinal telephone survey on political-party identification in South Carolina from 1990 – 2007 on Thursday, Nov. 8. Sam Wellborn of the institute will present the findings at a panel discussion on the 2008 South Carolina presidential primaries at 7 p.m. in Gambrell Hall, Room 250.

The panel, “Democrats, Independents, Republicans and the 2008 SC Presidential Primaries: One Prize, Many Hunters,” also will feature political consultants Crawford Cook and J. Warren Tompkins III, who will discuss their implications for the upcoming presidential primaries in South Carolina. Dr. Blease Graham, professor of political science and expert on South Carolina politics, will moderate the discussion.

Reporters can access the survey at http://www.ipspr.sc.edu/partyid.pdf. Wellborn will be available for interviews before and after the panel discussion Thursday. To coordinate coverage, call Peggy Binette, Office of Media Relations at 803-777-5400.
