Thrills and spills part of Physics Day at S.C. State Fair


Sandwiched between the corn dogs and the fried mushrooms is a science lesson, and more than 2,500 high school students from 35 schools in the Palmetto State will descend Tuesday, Oct. 16, on the S.C. State Fair for the Midway Physics Day.

The annual event, sponsored by the university’s department of physics and astronomy and the S.C. State Fair, will be held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Students, teachers and Carolina physics professors will meet at the WNOK radio tent and then ride the rides and see physics in action.

Hotel CEO to speak at HRSM Deans Executive Lecture Series


Hasmukh P. (H.P.) Rama, founder of JHM Hotels in Greenville, will be the guest lecturer Tuesday, Oct. 16, for the Dean’s Executive Lecturer Series in the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management. Rama’s talk, set for 3 p.m. in School of Law auditorium, is titled “Challenges of Success, How to Make an Impact.”

JHM Hotels owns and operates 30 hotels in seven states. Located entirely in the eastern United States, the company franchises premier brands such as Marriott and Hilton.

College of Engineering and Computing to open Career Center


Finding a great engineering career is only steps away for students in the College of Engineering and Computing. At 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, the college will open a Career Center that will advise students on locating a career in their engineering or computing major. The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and employers will be on hand to meet with students.
