University expert can discuss Marion Jones steroid scandal
The admission by Olympic track star Marion Jones that she used performance-enhancing drugs comes after years of her denying any type of steroid use.
Dr. James Carson, a researcher in the Arnold School of Public Health, has a grant from the National Institutes of Health to study anabolic steroids. Carson can discuss the history of the use of steroids and other drugs among athletes, the health problems associated with the use of steroids and human growth hormone, the problem of testing the “designer drugs” that top athletes have access to, and the implications that drug use has in sports.
Carson is available until 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, and after 1:30 for interviews.
To arrange interviews, call Karen Petit or Bond Nickles at 803-777-5400.
