Athletics Academic Center at Thomas Cooper to open Sept. 13
The University of South Carolina will announce the opening of a newly renovated Athletics Academic Center at Thomas Cooper Library at noon Thursday, Sept. 13. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature remarks by Eric Hyman, director of athletics; head football coach Steve Spurrier; men's basketball coach Dave Odom; and Thomas McNally, interim dean of libraries. The center features spaces for studying, instruction and a computer lab.

Report highlights problem of obesity among rural youth
A national report by the university's S.C. Rural Health Research Center on the prevalence of overweight and obese children in rural areas will be released Friday, Sept. 14.
Dr. Jan Probst, the center's director and the lead author on the report, will be available from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and after 3:15 p.m. to discuss the findings. The report is the nation's first to examine the prevalence of children being overweight, obese and physically inactive.
