University study: S.C. police officers don’t get enough training
A University of South Carolina study reports that South Carolina’s law enforcement officers don’t get enough training for their jobs. This is the first reported study to examine basic training for the state’s law enforcement trainees.
A news release and fact sheet will be distributed to media Tuesday, Sept. 18, and posted on the university’s web site: www.sc.edu , along with a link to the complete study.
A media availability with Drs. Michael Smith and Jeffrey Rojek is scheduled for 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the main conference room of the department of criminology and criminal justice in Currell College, located just off the top of the university’s historic Horseshoe.

Historian Harlowe Unger can preview talk on Lafayette
Historian and writer Harlow Giles Unger will be at the University of South Carolina on Wednesday, Sept. 19, to discuss the Marquis de Lafayette in connection with the 250th anniversary of American patriot’s birth.
Unger is available Tuesday, Sept. 18, to talk with reporters and preview his talk, titled "Lafayette: The Young French Hero Who Saved America." His talk is presented by Michelin North America, headquartered in Greenville. Unger wrote the authoritative biography of Lafayette who played a pivotal role in the success of the American Revolution.
