University to announce new scholarship program Sept. 20


University of South Carolina officials will announce a scholarship program that is the first of its kind for any college or university in the state at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. The event will be held on the patio behind the Osborne Administration Building.

Parking designated for media will be available in the “C” lot, accessible via Pendleton Street, between Marion and Sumter streets.

Reporters planning to attend the announcement should call Margaret Lamb or Peggy Binette in the Office of Media Relations at 803-777-5400 to arrange coverage.

Historian Harlowe Unger to deliver talk on Lafayette


Historian and writer Harlow Giles Unger will be at the University of South Carolina today (Sept. 19) to discuss the Marquis de Lafayette in connection with the 250th anniversary of American patriot’s birth. His talk is titled, "Lafayette: The Young French Hero Who Saved America." His talk is presented by Michelin North America, headquartered in Greenville. Unger wrote the authoritative biography of Lafayette who played a pivotal role in the success of the American Revolution.
