Civil-rights pioneer can discuss 40th anniversary of Dr. King’s death
Friday, April 4, marks the 40th anniversary of the death of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Civil rights pioneer and University of South Carolina historian Dr. Cleveland Sellers is available Thursday, April 2, through Friday, April 4, to discuss the important milestone with media.

C-SPAN CEO to address journalism students, faculty, alumni April 3
Brian Lamb, C-SPAN CEO and chairman, will give the keynote address for the College of Mass Communications and Information Studies, which is celebrating the fifth anniversary of I-Comm Week, at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in the law school auditorium.

University to celebrate 200th anniversary of Garibaldi’s birth
Home to the one of the world’s foremost research Giuseppi Garibaldi collections, the University of South Carolina will celebrate the birth of the famous Italian patriot and revolutionist who inspired Civil War Gen. Wade Hampton and his “Red Shirts” with a public lecture, exhibition and conference that gets under way, Thursday, April 3. The opening of an exhibit, which includes a short lecture, will be at 5 p.m. Thursday on the mezzanine level of Thomas Cooper Library. The “Garibaldi Abroad” conference runs through Saturday, April 5.

Media invited to see New York City Ballet stars rehearse April 4
New York City Ballet star Wendy Whelan and six other principal dancers from the NYCB will rehearse with university dance students at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, on the stage of the Koger Center in preparation for the 7 p.m. performance of “Ballet Stars of New York.” This marks the third year that Whelan and others from the famed dance company have come to Columbia, an arrangement only with the university, to perform Balanchine and other major works of dance.
Media are invited to watch and film the Friday rehearsal. To do so, reporters must contact, in advance, Peggy Binette at 803-777-5400.
