University experts can discuss offshore oil drilling
Petroleum experts at the University of South Carolina can discuss the impact of offshore oil drilling. On Monday, President Bush lifted an executive order on offshore drilling, but Congress must vote to repeal a 1981 law that bans the practice. The issue is a political hot potato for Republicans and Democrats.
University geology professors Dr. Christopher Kendall and Dr. James Knapp can discuss the challenges of drilling, whether technological advances would limit damage to the environment and the likelihood of finding oil off the coast of South Carolina. Both have worked for oil-exploration companies and have conducted research on petroleum exploration.
