Fitness expert can discuss CDC report on increase in diabetes
A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds that nearly 24 million Americans have diabetes, an increase of 3 million since 2007.
Most of the cases are Type 2 diabetes which is linked to obesity, physical inactivity and poor diet. Dr. Teresa Moore, an exercise physiologist and nutrition expert at the Arnold School, can discuss the physical toll of diabetes, the health dangers associated with the disease and tips on what people can do to reduce their risk for diabetes.

USC Upstate to hold forum on ‘Renewable Forms of Energy’
The University of South Carolina’s College of Engineering and Computing is continuing the “Our Energy Future” series with a program at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at USC Upstate in Spartanburg. Titled “Renewable Forms of Energy,” the program will be on the second-floor ballroom of the Campus Life Center.
Guest speakers will be Erika Hartwig of the S.C. Energy Office and Dr. Venkat Lakshmi, a faculty member and researcher in the university’s department of geological sciences. The event also will include displays on energy efficiency and renewable forms of energy, such as solar, wind and biofuels.
