Law professor available to discuss U.S. Supreme Court decision

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that a defendant in a criminal trial – even one who killed a witness who could testify against him – is nonetheless protected from hearsay statements the witness may have made before her death. University of South Carolina law professor Jim Flanagan co-wrote the brief on behalf of the defense team that persuaded the high court to hear the case – Giles v. California -- which it did in April, ultimately resulting in a reversal of a decision by the California Supreme Court.

Flanagan is available to discuss the case Thursday (June 26). To arrange an interview, contact Bond Nickles in the university’s Office of Media Relations, 803-777-5400.
