ATTENTION ...... Metro, Feature, Business & Broadcast Editors:
High gas prices encouraging South Carolinians to vacation at home

Forget the big suitcase and frequent flier miles. Gas prices and other vacation costs are forcing many South Carolina families to look in their own backyards and around the Palmetto State for a “staycation” in place of a distant summer getaway.

What do the change of plans mean for local economies, amusement parks, hotels and restaurants? Dr. Rich Harrill, director of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Travel & Tourism Industry Center, will be available Friday, June 6, to discuss the economic ramifications to South Carolina’s tourism industry.

To arrange an interview with Harrill, call Margaret Lamb in the Office of Media Relations, 803-777-5400.
