Teegen to meet Florence/Myrtle Beach biz leaders, alumni


Moore School of Business Dean Hildy Teegen will meet with business leaders and university alumni in Florence and Myrtle Beach Thursday, March 13, to share her strategic vision for the Moore School: sustainable enterprise and development and international business. Events in each city offer business and local media excellent reporting opportunities on the new direction of the Moore School and Teegen, who began her tenure as dean of the Moore School last September.

Teegen will speak at a lunch from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Florence Country Club. Darla D. Moore, for whom the business school is named, and Harris E. DeLoach Jr., chairman, president and CEO of the Sonoco Foundation, will host the Florence event.

Teegen will address Grand Strand leaders from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Island Vista, located at 6000 North Ocean Blvd. in Myrtle Beach. Hosts for the evening event are Dennis L. Wade, president and CEO of Jackson Companies; Michael C. Gerald, executive vice president of BB&T; Joe A. Padgett, executive vice president of Wachovia Bank of S.C.; and Chester A. Duke, vice president and vice chairman of Anchor Bank.

Brain Awareness Week: Five senses on center stage


It’s Brain Awareness Week, and faculty from the University of South Carolina are working with students at the Center for Inquiry to discuss the intricacies of the brain and its role in our everyday lives.

On Wednesday, March 12, first-grade students will discuss the brain and its connection to the five senses. The program from 1 – 2:45 p.m. will include a group discussion on the five senses, individual lessons on each of the senses and a reading of the “Magic School Bus Explores the Senses.” The event promises to be visual and creative.
