University expert can discuss colitis and link to colorectal cancer

People with ulcerative colitis appear to have a higher risk of colorectal cancer. Dr. Lorne Hofseth, a colorectal cancer researcher at the University of South Carolina, is collecting data on the role of American ginseng in the prevention and treatment of colitis. This study is being presented at the American Association for Cancer Research annual conference in San Diego next month. Hofseth also has a study on the role of Ginkgo biloba extract in the prevention and treatment of colitis and is working with the National Cancer Institute on a colitis study.

To arrange interviews with Hofseth, call Karen Petit at 803-777-5400.
